Why invent a new instrument?
I have been a guitarist for as long as I can remember – about as long as I’ve known that Nutella on white bread over a thick layer of butter tastes to die for. Later I became a singer, which took quite some work. But every time I heard a good cellist, I melted: voice, strings, chords and the bow, all at once.
At the end of 2025 I did the impossible. With the help of good friends and their skills, I built a new instrument. It sounds new and wild, warm and heartbreakingly intense. It brings together everything I love about strings, guitar and voice – and opens up possibilities I had never had before.
The Stingbow was born while I was writing the score for the Netflix film Das Geschenk – and it found its way straight into the soundtrack: on several tracks you can hear it woven into the music as a colour of its own.
The album
Now I am composing an album in this new orbit, where everything is still unknown. That is a little scary, because it is unpredictable: where will the music go? But like everything unpredictable, it is an adventure – and I am diving in with full passion, wherever it leads.
